The Writer Tag

This is a writers survey by Bea, of the Dalaga Project, but I was originally tagged by my good friend, Johna of Out on the Seventh Street. I don't consider myself an official "writer", but this is something fun I thought I'd try. If you're interested in trying it out as well, please give it a go. I'd love to read through your survey as well.
1. What type of writing do you do?
I blog. I rant on my blog. Does that count as writing? It's mostly personal like an online diary. Although, there was a season in my life where I used to write songs.
2. What genres and/or topics do you write about?
I usually write about my days as a mother and wife. My son's entire life has been blogged so far but he's only a year old. Who knows how long I'd want to talk about him? Occasionally, I write about my reflections about life and God.
3. How long have you been writing?
I've been writing since first year of high school when "blogging" was done with notebooks and was very private.
4. Are you published?
No, unfortunately, I am not. I don't know if I'll ever be, but it would be nice to try and achieve it one day.
5. What was the first story you ever wrote?
I don't think I've ever written a story. But I can tell you I wrote a song about a story way back when I just started having crushes.
6. Why do you write?
To write what I cannot say, to be a little bit more braver than yesterday.
7. How do you find time to write?
As a mom, I am in demand 24/7 but every day for about 2 hours (or 3 hours, if I'm lucky) my son takes his daily nap. I love the quietness that happens during this time. I get to focus on what needs to be done for the day.
8. When and where are the best times to write?
I like writing in our bedroom. I like my bedroom. It feels safe and comfortable - just like how I write.
I only have time to write during the afternoons between 1pm - 4pm, which is my son's nap time.
9. Favorite food/drinks while writing?
If I could drink coffee, it would be coffee. But since I'm expecting baby #2  - I just drink a lot of water.
10. Your writing playlist?
I don't really have one. I like it quiet, which if you have noisy boys in the house, you, too, would appreciate it very much. But lately, I've been hearing seagulls outside our window. It's quite soothing!
11. What do family/friends/loved ones think of you writing?
I don't know. I've never really let them read my stuff. I'm too scared. But recently, I've gotten some feedback. And so far, it hasn't been bad at all.
12. Parts of writing you enjoy the most?
Knowing I put myself out there despite my fear of putting myself out there.
13. Parts of writing you find challenging?
Being too personal - I'm afraid that people will know me too well. For some, it may not be a bad thing.
14. What do you use to write with and on?
I use Blogspot as my host for blogging. And I pretty much write everything there. For on the go, I have Evernote on my phone. I have a WipePad for big ideas. And I keep a few Muji binders as a scrapbook.
15. How do you overcome writers block?
I take photos. Photos always have something to say.
16. How do you motivate yourself to write?
Again, I take photos. Aside from that, I like to read other mommy blogs. It's always inspiring to find out what other's lives are like.
17. Authors who inspire you as a writer?
Ashley Campbell of Under the sycamore -  Although, she isn't an author, she is the one who inspired me to blog. She writes about her days, family, life, God - mostly personal things. She's a mother, a wife, a creative individual and a very inspiring woman of God.
18. Books that inspire you as a writer?
I've only read a couple of books. But my favourite would be Cupcake by Rachel Cohn.
19. Best advice you’ve gotten as a writer?
Write what you cannot say.
20. Writing goals this year?
To put myself out there and overcome this fear.

  1. "I write to be a bit braver than yesterday." - I love this :)

Writing songs have always been a frustration of mine. It's so cool you used to do it!

Also, I agree with photography. I'm not a lenswoman myself, but I find that different forms of art help each other be made. Like a response to a song, or fleshing out an image or experience you captured with your camera.

So glad you did this little tag! Keep writing, dear :) Your blog is a delight to read.

  2. I don't have my other friend's blogs. But I tagged them on Facebook so hopefully, they'll try it too! It was fun!
